Birthday Party Decor: Part 1

For my little man's 1st birthday party I have decided on doing a vintage newspaper boy theme with the colors being white/grey/blues. I am so excited about it and things are turning out really good so far. My plan is to kind of document the progress I've made/am making on the party prep.

A lot of ideas I've gotten have come from pinterest (which I LOVE by the way!). There are sooooo many cool ideas for any type of party on there...not to mention other crafts, food, diy stuff, home decor, the list goes on and on. Seriously, I am kind of obsessed with pinterest these days :)

Yesterday during nap time, I got out the trusty hot glue gun and went to work on the happy 1st birthday banner that is going on the big cake.

I used the awesome cutter machine I have to cut out the letters (I am using it for most of the decor and I love it! It makes things so much easier and nicer) and also did a shadow layer of blue behind it. (I know, the fall colored table cloth is a bit distracting, sorry!) I hot glued grey and white baker's twine on the back of each letter and I'm going to tie it to kabob sticks to go into the cake. I found the idea on pinterest and will be so perfect since I am not super great at cake decorating. This is the general idea:

This way all I have to do is frost the cake and stick the sticks in it and we're good to go! :) For the little 6 inch smash cake, I just bought a "1" candle to go on top, to keep it simple.

My next undertaking is to experiment with some cakes. Since I'm making them myself I need to make sure they turn out yummy (and look decent too! :) )

Non-party related, we went to the orchard last week and our little man had a blast!

It was a little chilly, but fun nonetheless. Fall is such a fun time of the year :)
