Birthday Party Decor: Part 2

One of my favorite decorations for the party (so far!) is the name banner I made for the high chair. I just really like how it turned out, exactly like I was wanting it to, which we all know doesn't always happen :)

I absolutely love the font and how it stands out. I made newspaper medallions to keep with the newspaper theme.

I also finished the "Happy 1st Birthday" banner. I was originally going to hang it on the front of the food table, but as I was gluing it all together, quickly realized it was going to be waaaay too big for that.

So I've decided to hang it on the wall above the food table. I think it will look a lot better there anyway.
My awesome mother in law helped me come up with an idea and also helped make a banner for the food table. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm really excited about it :-)

I sent out the invites last week as well. We bought some of that kid's craft paper from Ikea to print the invites on. It is a huge roll for only $4.99 and I'm sure it will come in handy down the road.

I was really surprised at how much that paper helped get the newspaper look once I ran them through the printer.

The other task I've crossed off the to do list was the cake experimenting.

Hubs and I were both VERY happy with the cake, it was delicious! It is just a doctored up box mix and let me tell you, it totally tastes homemade from scratch! I had the hubs take it into work because we were both eating an embarrassing amount! :)

Birthday Party Decor: Part 1

For my little man's 1st birthday party I have decided on doing a vintage newspaper boy theme with the colors being white/grey/blues. I am so excited about it and things are turning out really good so far. My plan is to kind of document the progress I've made/am making on the party prep.

A lot of ideas I've gotten have come from pinterest (which I LOVE by the way!). There are sooooo many cool ideas for any type of party on there...not to mention other crafts, food, diy stuff, home decor, the list goes on and on. Seriously, I am kind of obsessed with pinterest these days :)

Yesterday during nap time, I got out the trusty hot glue gun and went to work on the happy 1st birthday banner that is going on the big cake.

I used the awesome cutter machine I have to cut out the letters (I am using it for most of the decor and I love it! It makes things so much easier and nicer) and also did a shadow layer of blue behind it. (I know, the fall colored table cloth is a bit distracting, sorry!) I hot glued grey and white baker's twine on the back of each letter and I'm going to tie it to kabob sticks to go into the cake. I found the idea on pinterest and will be so perfect since I am not super great at cake decorating. This is the general idea:

This way all I have to do is frost the cake and stick the sticks in it and we're good to go! :) For the little 6 inch smash cake, I just bought a "1" candle to go on top, to keep it simple.

My next undertaking is to experiment with some cakes. Since I'm making them myself I need to make sure they turn out yummy (and look decent too! :) )

Non-party related, we went to the orchard last week and our little man had a blast!

It was a little chilly, but fun nonetheless. Fall is such a fun time of the year :)

Wow, It's Been Waaay Too Long!

I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted! To be honest, I pretty much forgot all about my prior blogging days until my brother happened to ask me about it earlier this week.

I don't know if anyone is even following this anymore, but I'm going to go ahead and *try* to start the blogging back up again! :)

I would like to do some more thrift store clothes transformations, but currently, I don't have a good thrift store to shop at (I know, it's horrible, believe me!) So I'm not sure what avenue the blog will take yet. Maybe just focusing on crafty stuff for now, we will see.

I think first up on the agenda will be a birthday party...my baby boy will be turning 1 in the beginning of November! Time flies! I've been busy working on decor for the party so I think that will be a good place to start :-) Our theme is vintage newspaper boy. I am oh so excited about it!

So, stay tuned for some posts about the party progress in the coming weeks! :-)

Nursery Reveal! (finally!)

I know I've been MIA for a while, quite a while actually. We've been really busy around here getting last minute things done in preparation for the baby. We are 38 weeks this week and ready to meet our baby boy! :)

We really wanted to go for a vintage style nursery and also wanted to be as thrifty as possible. So, without further ado, here is a little tour of our finished nursery.

Our lovely crib with the bedding that I made. Also the changing table that we refinished. There is a little half table right next to the changing table that we bought at a local antique store that was already white and distressed so we didn't have to do anything to it. The rug (which I LOVE) is from Ikea and was only around $20, awesome deal!

This chandelier is hanging over the changing table. I got it from a garage sale for $8. It was really ugly, but a little Krylon blue spray paint fixed it right up :)

Here is the crib mobile that I made. I got the idea off of pinterest. I used scrapbook paper, paper doilies and an embroidery hoop to make it. It was really easy and I like the vintage look it has.

This bookcase came from Ikea too, only $39.99 I believe. We needed the bookcase to be pretty narrow (which is kind of hard to find on a budget) since it's tucked in the corner and our rocking chair will also be in that area once the baby moves from the bassinet in our room to his crib. I like that we have plenty of room to increase his book collection :)
Oh, and a side note, I got the curtains from Walmart on clearance. I kind of wanted to put them in our dining room too :)

Here is our refinished dresser. I bought the mirror from a thrift store last winter. The frame is plastic and it was this ugly gold color, so I sprayed it down with oil rubbed bronze spray paint to match the hardware on the dresser. I like the ornate details on it, even if it is plastic :) We also have these really cute block letters that we picked up at Hobby Lobby (50% off of course!) that spell out his name for the top of the dresser. I took them down before taking the picture because his name is a surprise! :-)

These are little animal cut-outs that I made from left over fabric from the crib bedding. I got the idea from a website somewhere (sorry I don't remember where). They are kind of hard to see, I wish I would have made them bigger. The top one is a bunny, the middle is a kitty and the bottom is a monkey.

This is another project I got off of pinterest :) I used vintage blue and green buttons to make a scripted "R". I used fabric glue to glue them on and my wonderful hubby stretched the canvas on a frame that he made.

That's pretty much it! It's a cozy room, but I think our little monkey will like it. :-)
