First Birthday Party Photos!

Our little man's first birthday party was a huge success! Everyone had a blast, especially the birthday boy! :)
The photobooth was a hit as well! A big huge thanks to my in-laws for all the help with the decorations and party prep :)

This was his "back off dad, I got this!" face...he LOVED the cupcake!

Of course, with any party, there were a few things that didn't go quite a planned but it all worked out in the end. It was a fabulous weekend and I wouldn't have changed anything! :)

Birthday Party Decor: Part 2

One of my favorite decorations for the party (so far!) is the name banner I made for the high chair. I just really like how it turned out, exactly like I was wanting it to, which we all know doesn't always happen :)

I absolutely love the font and how it stands out. I made newspaper medallions to keep with the newspaper theme.

I also finished the "Happy 1st Birthday" banner. I was originally going to hang it on the front of the food table, but as I was gluing it all together, quickly realized it was going to be waaaay too big for that.

So I've decided to hang it on the wall above the food table. I think it will look a lot better there anyway.
My awesome mother in law helped me come up with an idea and also helped make a banner for the food table. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm really excited about it :-)

I sent out the invites last week as well. We bought some of that kid's craft paper from Ikea to print the invites on. It is a huge roll for only $4.99 and I'm sure it will come in handy down the road.

I was really surprised at how much that paper helped get the newspaper look once I ran them through the printer.

The other task I've crossed off the to do list was the cake experimenting.

Hubs and I were both VERY happy with the cake, it was delicious! It is just a doctored up box mix and let me tell you, it totally tastes homemade from scratch! I had the hubs take it into work because we were both eating an embarrassing amount! :)

Birthday Party Decor: Part 1

For my little man's 1st birthday party I have decided on doing a vintage newspaper boy theme with the colors being white/grey/blues. I am so excited about it and things are turning out really good so far. My plan is to kind of document the progress I've made/am making on the party prep.

A lot of ideas I've gotten have come from pinterest (which I LOVE by the way!). There are sooooo many cool ideas for any type of party on there...not to mention other crafts, food, diy stuff, home decor, the list goes on and on. Seriously, I am kind of obsessed with pinterest these days :)

Yesterday during nap time, I got out the trusty hot glue gun and went to work on the happy 1st birthday banner that is going on the big cake.

I used the awesome cutter machine I have to cut out the letters (I am using it for most of the decor and I love it! It makes things so much easier and nicer) and also did a shadow layer of blue behind it. (I know, the fall colored table cloth is a bit distracting, sorry!) I hot glued grey and white baker's twine on the back of each letter and I'm going to tie it to kabob sticks to go into the cake. I found the idea on pinterest and will be so perfect since I am not super great at cake decorating. This is the general idea:

This way all I have to do is frost the cake and stick the sticks in it and we're good to go! :) For the little 6 inch smash cake, I just bought a "1" candle to go on top, to keep it simple.

My next undertaking is to experiment with some cakes. Since I'm making them myself I need to make sure they turn out yummy (and look decent too! :) )

Non-party related, we went to the orchard last week and our little man had a blast!

It was a little chilly, but fun nonetheless. Fall is such a fun time of the year :)
